Aivars Taurins joins Stena Line

From the 28th of January Aivars Taurins joins Stena Line and will take on the position as Regional Director for the Baltics, Russia and the CIS countries. Most recently he has had the position as Managing Director for DB Schenker in Latvia.

New CEO for Stena Line

Stena Line's CEO, Gunnar Blomdahl, will be finishing after 10 years as CEO on 1 January next year. Carl-Johan Hagman has been appointed as the new CEO for Stena Line. Carl-Johan Hagman currently has responsibility for all shipping operations in the Stena Group.

Green light from the Competition Authority

The German competition authority, Bundeskartellamt, has approved the deal between Stena Line and Scandlines Deutschland GmbH, which was presented 30 May, for the acquisition of five ferry routes between Sweden and Germany to Latvia. The acquisition is part of Stena Line's strategy to expand into growth markets and it is expected to be completed by the end of August.

Stena Line acquires five ferry routes between Sweden and Germany to Latvia. The three routes, Travemünde to Ventspils and Liepaja as well as the route Nynäshamn-Ventspils have been acquired from Scandlines GmbH. Moreover, Stena Line has acquired Scandlines GmbH's vessels and operation on the routes between Trelleborg to Sassnitz and Rostock, which makes Stena Line the sole owner. The acquisitions are part of Stena Line's strategy of expansion into growth markets.

Stena Line is strengthening its freight organisation by recruiting Björn Petrusson as Group Freight Director. Björn will have the overall responsibility for running and developing Stena Line's freight business.

Stena Line has appointed Bjarne Koitrand, 42, as the new Technical Director with responsibility for port facilities as well as for the operation, safety and refitting of all Stena Line's ferries. Bjarne Koitrand comes from his previous role as CEO for Götaverken Cityvarvet in Gothenburg.

Ferry company Stena Line has expressed its delight at today’s announcement that its acquisition of the DFDS routes from Belfast to Liverpool (Birkenhead) and Belfast to Heysham has been fully approved by the Competition Commission.

As part of Stena Line's environmental efforts, a world first project is now getting underway. As the first passenger ferry in the world, the Stena Jutlandica, Gothenburg-Fredrikshaven, is being equipped with two wind turbines at the prow, which will contribute by both supplying energy and reducing fuel consumption.
