Stena Line has appointed Bjarne Koitrand, 42, as the new Technical Director with responsibility for port facilities as well as for the operation, safety and refitting of all Stena Line's ferries. Bjarne Koitrand comes from his previous role as CEO for Götaverken Cityvarvet in Gothenburg.
"We are very pleased that we have succeeded in recruiting Bjarne to the position of Technical Director. He has the right background and expertise needed to continue the development of our ferries and at the same time take responsibility for our nautical and engineering personnel," says Gunnar Blomdahl, CEO, Stena Line.
Bjarne Koitrand has a long history in shipping and the shipyard industry. In recent years, he has been the CEO for Götaverken Cityvarvet in Gothenburg, where he had the ultimate responsibility for the entire shipyard business, including 130 employees. Previously, Bjarne Koitrand has been CEO for Rederi AB Brevik in Gothenburg and has held several different roles in the international shipping business in Sweden, England and Korea.
"It will be both exciting and challenging to start work for Stena Line. Today, it has one of Europe's largest and most modern fleets. At the same time, it has an operational reliability that few in the ferry business can compete with," Bjarne Koitrand says. "During recent years, Stena Line has invested approximately 10 billion in ports and new and refitted ships, so I am arriving in the company at a very exciting time."
Bjarne Koitrand will take up his position at the start of 2012. He will also sit in Stena Line's Group management. He replaces Robert Åkerlund, who after a transitional period is leaving his post for health reasons.
